Pet Dental Care

Your pet’s health is too important to leave to chance. At Georgetown Animal Hospital in Georgetown, OH, you work with a dedicated veterinary team to help keep your pet in the best of health. Pet care from our veterinarian includes preventative care, dental care, flea control, tick control, vaccinations, urgent care, and more. Your pet couldn’t be in better hands.

Preventative Care

Like the name implies, preventative care is designed to keep your pet well by offering services that protect his health. These include wellness exams, tick control, flea control, preventative medication for parasites, vaccinations and more. During a pet exam, our veterinarian will inspect your pet from nose to tail to ensure he’s in good health. If we discover signs of sickness or disease, we’ll perform diagnostics to provide you with an accurate diagnosis of your pet’s condition. We’ll then recommend treatment that can help expedite your pet’s recovery.

Dental Care

Dental care is a vital part of our preventative care program. We recommend your pet have annual dental exams and cleanings to enhance his oral health. Routine dental care can help prevent dental issues like abscesses, tooth infections, bleeding gums and periodontal disease.

We perform dental exams and cleanings under anesthesia to protect your pet from pain and discomfort. First, we’ll examine your pet’s teeth and gums for signs of infection or disease. If necessary, we’ll take x-rays to check the state of your pet’s teeth under the gum line. Professional cleaning entails scaling your pet’s teeth to remove plaque and tartar and polishing to make them shiny and bright. We also recommend you brush your pet’s teeth at home at least several times a week to prevent plaque buildup. You can also invest in dog treats and chew toys that help reduce plaque.

Benefits of Pet Dental Care

Like people, pets can develop all kinds of dental issues to include chipped or broken teeth, swollen gums, abscesses, bleeding gums and periodontal disease. Periodontal disease, in particular, can pose a real threat to your pet’s health. Left unchecked, the disease can spread to your pet’s bloodstream and cause kidney, liver or heart problems. Routine dental care can prevent dental issues that pose a threat to your pet’s overall health.
